サカモトサワガニは、沖縄島、奄美大島、徳之島、喜界島に分布します。甲幅４cm程度になります。小さいうちは川の中で過ごしますが、大きくなると付近の陸上で生活します。大型の個体は、河川周辺の岩を起こすと、下に潜んでいる事が多いです。那覇市内など沖縄島の中南部にも生息しています。写真は、沖縄本島南部の湧水付近で、夜間活動中の個体を撮影したもです。

Geothelphusa sakamotoanus is distributed on Okinawa Island, Amami Oshima, Tokunoshima, and Kikaijima. The width of the shell is about 4 cm. It inhabits streams and swamps.
